Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber talks about his latest musical, ‘Love Never Dies,’ which is the sequel to his global hit ‘Phantom of the Opera.’ (March 10)

The Yankees Are Back!

Here we are in the postseason again and we welcome a familiar friend (or foe, depends on how you look at it) – the New York Yankees.  After entering their .5 billion palace and spending millions in the off-season, the Yankees captured the American League East title and will play the Minnesota Twins in their opening playoff series.

The Yankees will start C.C. Sabathia in the first game.  He, along with A.J. Burnett and Mark Teixeira, made New York the American League front-runner through much of the regular season.  They lead both leagues with 103 wins and had the American League’s largest run differential at +162.

New York is also the favorite to win the World Series.  They swept 7 games against the Minnesota Twins during the regular season, and since the Twins had to scrap and battle just to get to the playoffs, it is reasonable to expect them to run out of gas against New York.

The Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Angels series will

The Babe Ruth Story – The Fierce Rivalry Of The Red Sox And The Yankees

Near the end of the 1919 season, Harry Frazee, then owner of the Boston Red Sox, decided to sell a group of his star players to the New York Yankees. Among them was George Herman Ruth, also known affectionately as “Babe”. Ruth’s career reflects the change in strategy and the shift in dominance from pitching to hitting at this time.

Babe Ruth had a reputation for being one of the fiercest “leftys” to ever take the mound. It was soon discovered that he wasn’t too bad with a bat either, and Ruth became the most celebrated and successful player in Boston. He was practically an institution. When many Bostonians awoke on January 6, 1920, and opened their morning newspapers, they mourned the fact that an icon had been sold to New York. The Babe was gone.

Boston did not seem to be able to recover from this catastrophe until the 2004 World Series, when the “Curse of the Bambino” was finally put to rest after 86 years. From 1903, when the Red Sox were

Big Moves Continue at Winter Meetings

Big Moves Continue at Winter Meetings

The 2006 winter meetings of baseball executives and agents continue to yield new homes for big name players. A slew of deals have gone down over the past couple days, including a couple blockbusters.

The Boston Red Sox have signed outfielder JD Drew to a five year, million deal. If the Sox think they’re getting Johnny Damon back or anything remotely close, they just threw lots of money away. Drew will continue to be a very solid player, but he’ll remain a hair below the “superstar” status Damon achieved while playing for the Red Sox. While I’ve never seen or heard of Drew “dogging it” in the field, he simply doesn’t exume the passion of a maximum effort player. And if the Red Sox are expecting money to change Drew’s approach, the Sox have made a serious mistake. I believe that Drew will continue to be a solid player, but he won’t quite be worth this huge contract.

The Red Sox remained busy, signing Julio Lugo to a four year,

Mlb: Yankees At Red Sox Odds – 8:00Pm Est On Espn

The 2010 MLB betting season will officially open Sunday Night with an ESPN match-up of long time traditional rivals as the defending World Series Champion New York Yankees travel to Fenway Park to take on the Boston Red Sox, who were a wild card playoff team last year. The game is scheduled for a starting time of 8:10pm EST with online sportsbooks favoring the Red Sox -115 at home over the Yankees with an over/under total of 9 in MLB odds. The Yankees will send ace left hander CC Sabathia to the hill as their starter as he will be opposed by Boston right hander Josh Beckett. This will be Sabathia’s seventh career opening day start as the Yankees embark on a title defense of their 27th Championship in 2010 World Series odds as +275 favorites.

Last year the Yankees went 22-12 when Sabathia started for them. Sabathia did well against the Red Sox last year with a record of 3-1 and a 2.22 earned run average. Last year Sabathia, in his first season

Dr. Stat’s Fantasy Thermometer: June 10th, 2008

The Doctor is in! This is designed to be more than just a summary of the past week’s hottest and coldest MLB fantasy players. The Fantasy Thermometer is here to provide deeper analysis and make you aware of current trends that go beyond looking at rankings and weekly performances. I want this to be as helpful as possible to fantasy readers, so your comments and feedback are encouraged, as they will help me to determine how to compile The Fantasy Thermometer each week. This week includes a new format, as I’ve compiled a hot starting lineup, two hot starting pitchers and one hot relief pitcher. I’ve included a short list of cold, underachieving players as well. MLB Picks: Bet on Red Sox vs Rockies – 8:40pm EST

The Boston Red Sox will try and end a two game losing streak tonight when they face the Colorado Rockies at 8:40pm EST from Coors Field. MLB betting picks have the Rockies -111 favorites vs the Red Sox +101 while online sportsbooks have the over/under total sitting at 9.5 OVER (-105). Colorado will give the ball to righthander Jason Hammel for tonight’s home game while Boston will counter with righthander Daisuke Matsuzaka. Hammel carries a 5-3 record with a 4.03 ERA this season while Matsuzaka has gone 5-2 with a 4.59 ERA. The Red Sox were up 6-5 heading into the ninth innings but three runs in bottom of the ninth for the Rockies resulted in a 6-8 loss instead.

The Rockies won as -168 favorites in MLB odds while the total flew OVER the 8 posted at sportsbooks. Jason Giambi nailed a two-run walk off homer in the ninth after Ian Stewart powered a 450 ft. solo shot off of Jonathan Papelbon to give Colorado the victory. The Red Sox ripped off four

Defining Weekend in Major League Baseball!

The Minnesota Twins have rebounded from an atrocious start and are now positioned for a serious run at the wild card spot. Tonight, they welcome the World Champion Chicago White Sox for a crucial three game set that may have them sitting in the penthouse come Sunday night.

While all this is going on in the Twin Cities, the Boston Red Sox will host Johnny Damon and his teammates for an unusual 5-game weekend tilt. The Red Sox must make a move this weekend or they are in serious jeopardy of being on the outside looking in come October.

The White Sox are staring at a brutal 9-game stretch as they leave Minnesota on Sunday and head straight to Motown, then back to the South Side for another three against the Twinkies! If you ask me, now’s the time to take advantage of all the online sports betting out there.

Minnesota will play 22 of their remaining 42 games against teams above .500 while the White Sox, 25 of 42, and the Red Sox have the toughest
